Our Story

4M Lavender is a small family farm located in Saint Johnsbury Vermont. The heart of the Northeast Kingdom. After making the move from Texas in 2019, we found this small piece of hillside with an already built farm stand near the road. Knowing it needed a purpose we began researching what crops would fit our location best. Although possible, but not the best choice for zone 4b growing conditions and climate, the versatility of lavender kept coming up. After months of research we had a plan.

We started planting lavender plants in June of 2020. That year we planted 120 plants of two different varieties, Munstead and Hidcote. During the winter of 2020-2021 we started experimenting with different soap recipes, made multiple recipes and had family try them to give feedback on which ones were best. We chose cold process soap making and decided on one recipe that seemed to be everyones favorite. We also researched different varieties of lavender plants to grow in our hardiness zone. Not all lavender varieties are cold hardy plants.

The following spring in 2021 we planted 288 lavender plants of the variety Sachet and Folgate. As the demand for long stem lavender grew, we chose to purchase the long stem and very fragrant variety Phenomenal from a local greenhouse.

The summer of 2022 we added 288 Grosso lavender plants that are another long stem lavender and added 25 more phenomenal lavender plants as well.

In 2023 we just replaced a few of our plants that we had lost during the cold winter months. To date we have over 700 plants and 6 different varieties of lavender in our field. We will continue to add to and care for our fields in the future.

All of our lavender is grown and harvested by our family at our lavender farm in Saint Johnsbury Vermont. We do not apply any pesticides or chemical fertilizers to our crops. We take great pride in keeping a pleasant and safe environment for all our visitors including the bees.
